Last weekend Pathfinder and Master Guides from across South New Zealand came together for leadership training at Pascoe Park. We had 14 leaders signed up for Pathfinder Leadership Award (PLA) and 41 for Master Guide training (MG). Our District Directors (DDs) covered topics such as Sabbath Camping, Nature Awareness, Communication, Group Skills, Knots & Lashings.
At these training weekends we like to cover practical skills as well, so our DDs got the flags and poles out and had everyone practice doing an open parade. This happened several times throughout the weekend. One comment I received from a Pathfinder was “it’s good to see the Leaders being put through their paces.” On Sunday everyone present made a Knot Board. This is not only a keepsake but also a resource for teaching the Pathfinders their knots.
A quote from ‘Steps to Christ’ I shared with our Leaders at the training:
“The wind blows wherever it wishes; you hear the sound it makes, but you do not know where it comes from or where it is going. It is like that with everyone who is born of the Spirit” John 3:8.
‘We cannot see the wind, but we can see what it does. We cannot see the Spirit of God as He works on the heart, but His power brings us new life. That power creates a new person in the image of God. Although we cannot see or hear the working of the Spirit, we can see what He has done.’
‘The character is not shown by one good deed or even a bad one. The character is shown by the way we speak and act day after day.’
