Dear Members and Friends of the Church,

The Government-initiated Royal Commission of Inquiry is looking into abuses in the care of children, youth and vulnerable adults in both state and faith-based institutions between the years of 1950 to 1999.  This Royal Commission has commenced with its preliminary hearing held on 25 June 2019 and victims of abuse will begin to tell their stories to the Commission within a matter of weeks.

An unknown number of members and others who were involved with our Church or its institutions over that period and were affected by abuse may choose to make submissions to the Royal Commission. From the statistics available it is clear many are victims of this damaging abuse. Remembering God’s promises of restoration, we pray that all who were abused, and their families will find empowerment in this process and also God’s peace, healing, and strength as a result.

“You have made me endure many terrible troubles. You restore me to life again.
You bring me back from the depths of the earth.  You comfort me and make me greater than ever.”
Psalm 71:20-21 (GW)
