Provide space and environments where God has a lot of room to be present and powerful.

“Your word is a lamp to my feet, a light on my path.” (Psalms 119:105)

“The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the seep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. The sheep follow him because they know his voice.” (John 10:3-5)

Encountering God rarely happens when we are busy, stressed and distracted. God Encounters is all about creating time and space for encountering God. This is through mentoring, testimonies, equipping, inspiring and good programing. Give God as much room to move as possible, after all, He is God.

What churches can do for;

Children

  • Provide an environment and experiences that allow children to encounter Jesus intimately, personally and regularly through prayer and reflection.
  • Use learning activities that are experiential, multisensory, engaging and varied in learning styles.
  • Tell awesome Bible stories and stories of faith that reach the heart and the mind.
  • Provide opportunities for children to experience and imagine how their personal story is intertwined with the big picture of the Bible.
  • Help children to enter into the wonder and mystery of the Bible through discussion and questioning and to respond using their individual gifts such as art, music, construction or drama.

Adults

  • Provide time, environment and experiences for adults to encounter Jesus intimately, personally and regularly through prayer and reflection.
  • Use learning activities that are experiential, multisensory, engaging and varied in learning styles.
  • Share testimonies of God’s faithfulness, along with other narratives of God’s presence and love.
  • Help adults to see how their life is part of the greater narrative of the salvation story.
  • Help adults to grasp the joy of discovering hidden treasure in Scripture through participating in group discussions, and to respond using their individual gifts such as art, music, construction, service, hospitality or drama.

How families can create room to encounter God

  • Create a Godly family culture that seeks to live the values of Jesus.
  • Take time as a family for worships to encounter Jesus which incorporate sharing God’s goodness personally, Bible reading and prayer, reflection and nurture.
  • Use learning activities that are experiential, multisensory, engaging and varied in learning styles.
  • Tell awesome Bible stories and stories of faith that reach the heart and the mind.
  • Reveal how each member of the family, and the family as a whole, are part of God’s greater story of salvation and have an important part to play.
  • Help each other to grasp the wonder and mystery of Scripture, and the joy of discovering hidden treasure in Scripture through participation in family discussion and questioning and invite creative individual and family response.

How couples can create room to encounter God

  • As a couple, take intentional time to encounter Jesus together by creating time, environments and experiences for regular prayer and reflection.
  • Chose activates that engage both of your learning styles. Experiment and have fun trying something new.
  • Share with your partner stories of what God is doing in your life and celebrate together, or where you are struggling and pray for each other.
  • Actively seek to understand how you as a couple are part of God’s bigger story, and look for ways to fulfil God’s purpose together.
  • Spice up your spiritual life by sharing and discussing the wonder and mystery of Scripture you have discovered to continue inspiring each other.

“When children realize that they are part of this story, that God’s story is also their story, that God’s story connects with their own expanding self- narratives, they become responsible for ensuring that the episodes in which they make appearances are faithful to the overall script.” (David Csinos and Ivy Beckwith, Children’s Ministry in the way of Jesus, 2013)
