Mirror Him – SNZC Women’s Retreat took place in Mt Hutt on October 19-21. Danijela Schubert, Discipleship Ministries Team Member (Women in Ministry) was our guest Speaker. Danijela shared openly from her heart and inspired us to Mirror Christ beginning with our thinking. How to replace negative thoughts with positive ones, being aware of our own self-perceptions and setting healthy boundaries in all areas of our life were some of the key aspects presented.

On Sabbath Danijela got us to study Scripture using the five steps from the Following Jesus bookmark. The first passage we reflected on was 2 Kings 8: 1-6 and in our small groups, we went through the five points: 1. What is new? 2. What surprises you? 3. What don’t you understand? 4. What will you obey (apply)? 5. What will you share with another this week? I was certainly surprised at how new this story sounded to me and I was challenged to dig deeper. Perhaps you would like to go through this simple exercise at home as well.

About 40 ladies, from around the South New Zealand Conference, attended and contributed to the successful running of the
retreat with their talent and energy. Adrielle Carrasco, Director of Adventist Health Ministries & Union Liaison for Women’s Ministries presented two interactive workshops, one on ‘Choice – How well do you exercise the power of your will?’ and the other one on ‘Mindful eating – think before you chew!’. Adrielle’s contagious energy got everyone in motion even at siesta time. This year the retreat was smaller in numbers in comparison to last year’s one but it was such a blessing to see more young mums coming with their babies and more young girls attend.

Tessa who attended a Women’s retreat for the first time was energised and she expressed great enthusiasm to share with her peers how this experience blessed her. Poli, another first- time attendee said: “I was touched by the testimony of one of the ladies and meeting other ladies and hearing their stories encourages me in my walk of faith”. Vineta shared how for her reflecting on the importance of setting boundaries in order to reflect Jesus better was a highlight. This was the first time SNZC Women’s retreat was held at Mt Hutt and immersing ourselves in nature was another great benefit.

We have been challenged to continue to surrender to the Holy Spirit and be transformed. “But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as from the Lord, the Spirit.” 2 Cor 3:18

Thank You Notes: Thank you Sharelle for setting the stage so elegantly again this year! The food was fine dining quality! Thank you Rosie, Debbie and Lynda for your tireless efforts in the kitchen! Worship was vibrant! Thank you Vineta and team! What a blessing to start the day with prayer at Jesus’ feet with Wendy on Sabbath and Sunday. Thank you for being a 24/7 First Aider Zis and giving us peace of mind. Thank you Marcelle for providing a number of opportunities for us all to get creative! And thank you to each and everyone who attended and brought your smiles, warmth and shared your stories.

Danijela based her presentations from a book she had recently read entitled: 7 Deadly Sins of Women in Leadership by Kate Coleman
