While on the doors in Christchurch, I met a mother who had just lost her teenage son to suicide 6 months ago. She had grown up as a Christian, but hadn’t practised for many years. I canvassed the health books, but as a single mum she had no money. I then canvassed the Great Controversy to her, and ended up offering to swap it for a glass of water. She then invited us in and said “I don’t normally answer the door to strangers, but come in and sit down”. She opened up about her son, and how hard it had been working through that. We prayed with her and left her with a Great Controversy and Desire of Ages. She wants to buy some health books in a few weeks. She hugged us as we left.
