This piece is an expression of my emotions after 15/3. I was on a field trip at a Marae near the mosque and was touched by the culture I was experiencing there and how the Marae actually came about as a safe haven.
I learned about the Maori greeting and how it is a sign of acceptance.
As someone who finds it difficult to express my emotions in words, I did it how I feel most comfortable and with the knowledge I learned on the day about Maori culture. So it is of a Muslim woman being greeted and accepted by the mother culture of this land.
This piece may look incomplete but it was in the moment of my pain that I quickly did this and it means accepting each other and inviting those hurting into a safe haven.
