Papanui Church was so delighted to witness the baptism of Vanessa Macey this past Sabbath (June 16). Vanessa shared how members of the local church cared for her and showed an interest in her life, our Adventist school and teachers nurtured her faith and how one of our Conference youth events gave her an opportunity to make the decision to follow Jesus in her life, which she accepted. Here are her words.

My name is Vanessa. I started coming to church in 2011with my Mum. Then I began a life-changing experience at Christchurch Adventist School in 2017. Mr Paul, my teacher, had a big role in my spiritual growth. Most mornings at worship he would read us Bible verses and got us to reflect on them. But I was still completely lost. I knew that God was there but I thought of it as a fact. At Chapel, I learned songs and verses I didn’t know before.
My turning point was at JT camp last year listening to Pastor Jesel talk about God’s love which touched my heart. I began to have Bible studies at school with Pastor SJ and then with Pastor Stephen.
My life with God is now strong and is growing each day. I now know that God is with me and loves me. 2 Corinthians 5:17 says, “therefore if anyone is in Christ he or she is a new creation, the old has gone and the new has come.” So that is why I’m getting baptised, to show the world that I am a new and proud Christian. I want to thank Mrs Devine, Ms Paul, Mrs Botha, Granny and Brent Ennor for showing me love and being such a big influence on me and my journey with God.
